Selecting a language from the International one and our native language is a common issue already. As stated in the dictionary, A world language is a language spoken internationally which is learned by many people as a second language. A world language is not only characterized by the number of its speakers, but also by its geographical distribution, international organizations and in diplomatic relations. While, A first language or our native language is the language a person has learned from birth or within the critical period, or that a person speaks the best and so is often the basis for sociolinguistic identity.
If I were asked, between the English Language and our own Filipino Language, I would pick our native language. For me, English language is only a second choice. Since the day we existed in this world, we started hearing Filipino words. We may not understand them immediately, but it is the language that we hear. Every time we wake up, we could here our parents saying "Gising na! malelate ka na!", whenever we got scolded, when they ask us something, and many more. Its the language that we use to talk to neighbors, friends, and even playmates while we were younger.
Tagalog is our native land's language. I must be proud, not only me, but all of us must be proud of it. English language could help us in many things. Talking to people, getting a job, asking them whenever you're on an out of the country trip, and its also a way of formality, but even though it could help me in many things, i would still love my own language, and never replace it with other languages. Just like what Jose Rizal says, "Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika, ay mas mabaho pa sa isang malansang isda."
